Let’s face it, choosing what to wear for your engagement is a big deal. And with so many options to choose from, it can be really challenging to find that perfect outfit for not only you but your partner as well. Now, the last thing I want is for you to be feeling overwhelmed about what to wear- this should be an exciting time, not a stressful one. So, I have compiled a list of tips to help you find that perfect outfit or outfits so you can feel comfortable and confident during your session!
Let’s get into it, shall we?
01. Decide on a Color Palette
First things first, to simplify this entire process, decide on a color palette to start. Knowing what colors and tones you want in your outfits will help narrow down the choices and options you have by a lot. Figure out if you want warm and earthy tones or dark and grungy tones for a more edgy look. The color palette you choose will dictate a lot on how the photos will feel. If you want a light and airy feel, stick with light colors. If you want more of a grungy feel, go with darker colors and so on!.
02. When in Doubt, Stick to Neutrals!
If choosing a color palette overwhelms you, just stick to neutrals! They are easy to mix and match and look good in almost every season and location. Neutrals are my personal favorite and compliment the tone of my photos beautifully. They are always what I recommend to my couples.
03. Coordinate Your Outfits
Pro tip: you want to both look like you’re going to the same place. If one of you is wearing a beautiful evening gown- the other shouldn’t be wearing a graphic tee. Make sure your outfits complement each other in terms of style of dress and colors as well. So, take a second to make sure the colors or patterns you are wearing don’t clash against one another.
04. Take the Location Into Account
Another important aspect to take into consideration: the location! When choosing the level of dress and colors you’re going to go with, think about where you’re going to have your photos done. If it’s the beach- stick to bright neutrals to complement the sandy tones and contrast the water. If it’s an open field, go with warm earthy tones- or neutrals because as I said, they work with everything (;
05. Pinterest for the Win
If you are more of a visual person- I highly recommend Pinterest for outfit inspiration and ideas! It’s a great way to see what kind of style you like and find the exact outfits if you want to order new ones!
I hope this helped!
